My Professional Experience

I’m the president and sole proprietor of Cassens Associates – Diversified Nutrition Management Systems, a firm providing a variety of wide-ranging nutrition and dietetics services to private individuals and long-term care institutions. I'm an author with seven published books and articles ranging from professional topics to nutrition related blogs. 

In my private practice I provide general nutrition, wellness and chronic disease counseling to individuals and groups with absolute confidentiality in the comfort of your home. As an independent consultant my experience is broad and varied. I have helped open and provide consulting services to group homes for adults (CCRC) and independent living communities such as Residential and Assisted Living centers. Contact me for your consulting needs.

Working in all levels of long-term care with positions in middle and senior management for some of the largest public and private companies helped develop several specialties. I specialize in project management, cost-effective food production management, safety and sanitation systems, policies and procedures development, and systems to ensure budgetary and regulatory compliance.  My hands-on approach leads to successful results because I understand the human factor in any situation and apply the appropriate techniques that allow working under extreme pressures at a rapid pace. ​​My credentials, memberships & awards

I have a Bachelor of Science with specialties in Foods & Nutrition from Barry University, Miami, FL; a Dietetic Internship from Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA; and a Master Healthcare Administration from University of La Verne, La Verne, CA and a lifetime teaching credential for the Community Colleges systems in California and a LEAP-MRT therapist, having successfully completed the CLT certification course with Oxford Biomedical Technologies.  These credentials allow me to practice medical nutritional therapy (MNT) and teach nutrition, dietetics, food sanitation and safety and culinary classes. 

As a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) I'm credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and a member of  the California Association of Nutrition and Dietetics (CAND), Dietetic Practice Groups (DPG) and Member Interest Groups (MIG) to keep me informed on current evidence based research and informed of the latest trends in our profession. 

Conducting reviews of professional publications for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, professional groups and independent authors fulfills part of my responsibilities to my profession and colleagues. Volunteering at the national, state and local levels keeps me involved and benefits my profession and you, my clients. Participating in seminars, workshops and training programs promotes standards of practice and improves performance. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recognizes members whose contribution helps to advance our profession and enhances the health benefits to our clients and patients with special awards.  ​ These are some of the  honors bestowed to me:

I'm a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, cook, gardener, animal rescuer and advocate of   maintaining a sustainable and renewable environment. I'm also a registered dietitian nutritionist enjoying a thriving practice. I like variety in my life and my practice and plan to keep on growing, learning,  teaching, mentoring, changing and enjoying life's amazing abundance. 

My Uniqueness

Living with my husband of 50+ years on a small ranch in the Mojave Desert of Southern California, we enjoy baking ancient grain breads, cooking, growing fruit trees, chiles and organic vegetables. We love nature walks in the desert and off-road trips exploring the area. We have 3 daughters, 5 grandchildren, and an assorted and always changing menagerie of rescued dogs, cats, turtles, frogs, fish, crayfish and exotic lizards.
