I have a Bachelor of Science with specialties in Foods & Nutrition from Barry University, Miami, FL; a Dietetic Internship from Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA; and a Master Healthcare Administration from University of La Verne, La Verne, CA and a lifetime teaching credential for the Community Colleges systems in California. These credentials allow me to practice medical nutritional therapy (MNT) and teach nutrition, dietetics, food sanitation and safety and culinary classes.
As a member of the Association of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) I'm credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and a member of the California Association of Nutrition and Dietetics (CAND), Dietetic Practice Groups (DPG) and Member Interest Groups (MIG). Memberships in Nutrition Entrepreneurs (NE), Dietetics in Healthcare Communities (DHCC), Healthy Aging (HA), Latinos and Hispanics in Dietetics and Nutrition (LAHIDAN) and Dietitians in Business and Communication (DBC) keep me informed on current evidence based research and informed of the latest trends in our profession.
Conducting reviews of professional publications for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, professional groups and independent authors fulfills part of my responsibilities to my profession. Volunteering at the national, state and local levels keeps me involved and benefits my profession and you, my clients. Participating in seminars, workshops and training programs promotes our standards of practice and improved performance. I'm a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, cook, gardener, animal rescuer and advocate of maintaining a sustainable and renewable environment. I'm also a registered dietitian nutritionist enjoying a thriving practice. I like variety in my life and my practice and plan to keep on growing, learning, teaching, mentoring, changing and enjoying life's amazing abundance.
Living with my husband of 50+ years on a small ranch in the Mojave Desert of Southern California, we enjoy baking ancient grain breads, cooking, growing fruit trees, chiles and organic vegetables. We love nature walks in the desert and off-road trips exploring the area. We have 3 daughters, 5 grandchildren, and an assorted and always changing menagerie of rescued dogs, cats, turtles, frogs, fish, crayfish and exotic lizards.
